Being an outdoorsman and naturalist, and having travelled extensively out west, I was always drawn to the natural beauty of the deer antler and some of the beautiful Native American craft that incorporates the deer antler into its art. As I became more involved in basket weaving, I wanted to create a basket that went beyond using the antler as a decorative piece. My vision was to have the antler and basket “become one”.
Through extensive trial and error, I developed what we call our “Ready-to-Weave”© antler basket (see spoked antler ). The “Ready-to-Weave” Antler Basket is totally drilled, shaped, spoked and glued for you. There are no ribs to measure, cut, taper or insert, and it makes no difference whether you have an even or odd number. The rib spokes are very durable. You don’t have to weave on one side of your basket and then the other. The directions are the same whether you right or, like I am, left-handed. You can weave from the front or the back of your basket.
In addition to the spoked antler, weaving kits are also available that include all the materials necessary to produce a beautiful basket (see Photo Player). Both the spoked antler and/or weaving kit come with our easy to follow instructions that include the “3-2-1”© rule that will ensure a stunning result for beginner and expert alike.
